So Microsoft is going to pull XP off the shelves very soon. I am just curious as to what everyone’s impression or experience with different operating systems. I personally find Vista to be annoying with all it’s security checks and the long wait between boot up and working….plus the freezing up between windows…
Let’s just say you have the computer of your dreams…you have plenty of resources to run what ever you want 10 fold….what would you pick and why?
Come on guys…post some thoughts…lets start a conversation!

The choice seems quite simple to me:
1. If you use Windows-only software, use Windows XP as long as you can and then use Vista or 7 afterwards when XP loses support.
2. If you don’t mind a slightly higher entry level cost, you like slick animation, a unified interface, and commercial support (iTunes music store, Adobe CS3, etc.), then use Mac OS X.
3. If you don’t have specialized software needs (basically, you email, browse the web, listen to music, organize photos, and word process) and/or have ideals about open source v. proprietary software, then use Linux.

As a Windows/Linux user, I can tell you that a properly configured (tweaked) Vista can be an unbeatable choice! But if you like to try and learn new things (like me) you’ll love Linux, specially the friendly Ubuntu.
I do like them both, so I’m currently under a dual boot configuration, but the end result depends on each user…

Thanks for the info guys! I like you smoodin do enjoy Ubuntu….and if i can convince my customer base to switch….i try. Thanks for breaking down the choices there ubuntucat…some readers will appreciate that.
I do like XP though, it finally works without too many issues….Vista takes too long for the average user to configure…which is why so many of my clients ask for XP. People are used to it and it is not complicated….
